I am little behind on podcast listening as I am trying not to consume as much news as I used to but also stay informed on what is happening in the world. The struggle is real as is this fashion topic I lay before you.
While catching up on a backlog of episodes of a podcast I used to listen to regularly, a political one hosted by several former Obama staffers, a question from a listener piqued my interest. This question came at the end of the episode after the hosts discussed presidential legacies and ways to get more people to run for local office. The listener who goes by the name Defiant Emily asked “Can I keep wearing skinny jeans in 2025?”
This is where I feel I must weigh in. These guys may know politics, but denim is my wheelhouse. I have a definitive opinion on the matter based on a long history of wearing skinny jeans dating back to high school when I cuffed and tapered jeans on the days I wasn’t wearing long skirts, another look I am forever committed to.
The answer is yes. Yes you can still wear skinny jeans in 2025. You can wear them in any and every year, and you can quote me on that.
I watched with perplexed curiosity as mom jeans became a thing to the point of being satirized on SNL. I teased my daughter and her friends for wearing mom jeans unironically and took note of the fact that no mom I knew wore them. We moms stuck to our home base of denim, the skinny jean which we paired nicely with our long sweaters and short boots.
I’ve kept a close eye on the evolution of denim styles from the mom jeans to the more palatable wide legged, baggy and barrel jeans that seemed to be everywhere in 2024 and now in 2025. I have gotten on board with this look adding several pairs to my denim collection. I see moms and daughters and women and girls of all ages who have gone the way of the baggy jean. I am here for it.
But then I heard whispers, in person, in print and online.
Can I still wear my skinny jeans?
I miss showing off my boots above the skinny bottom part of the skinny jean!
How do I even wear snow boots in the actual snow with the now omnipresent wide legged jean?
How can I wear a long sweater with wide legged jeans?
And then Defiant Emily showed up on my political podcast feed. Defiant Emily — be defiant. All of you moms and daughters and women and girls of all ages, do not give up on what I think may be considered the vintage skinny jean. Wear them. Show off your short (and long) boots and also your long (and short sweaters) with your skinny jeans.
I liken my lifelong collection of skinny jeans to my dad’s lifelong collection of khaki pants. I can’t remember a time when my dad didn’t wear khaki pants. He wore them to the office during the week with a jacket and tie. On the weekends, he wore khakis with sweaters that had patches on the elbows, and not just for the preppy look of it, but because the sweaters were worn in on the sleeves with holes. My dad had a look. It worked for him, and he stuck with it. Side note, I never saw him wear jeans, skinny or otherwise.
While I am always interested in fashion trends — I mean the name of this newsletter is Life’s Accessories, I take what works for me and leave behind what does not. I could not get on board with the cold shoulder look of the aughts because my shoulders were cold. I have an aversion to animal prints on anything besides actual animals, and I can’t see a time or place where I will wear a shoulder padded anything.
Skinny jeans are my look and I am sticking to it.

Event Updates!!
I’m sharing two pictures below from an event I took part in last month in Boston. I was in conversation with my old friends Jennifer Weinstock and Amy Blumenfeld in front of nearly 200 of our new friends, who came out to support Women’s Philanthropy of CJP Boston and learn more about the anthology we contributed to, ON BEING JEWISH NOW. As one attendee emailed me “you were simply radiating Jewish joy, inspiration and energy right on the stage.” Thank you to all who came out that cold (almost snowy!) night in Boston.
p.s. I wore silk cargo pants and was pleased with that choice.

Next up on Wednesday night February 26th, I will be talking to my friend, author and entertaining and lifestyle expert who appears regularly on the TODAY SHOW (and was also a wonderful neighbor to my dear dad) at the Newtown Bookshop in Newtown, PA about her new book, WINE CLUB. Come join us for a fun night, interesting discussion and a wine tasting! More information on the Newtown Bookshop event at link here.

On Monday night March 10th, I will be in Port Washington, NY at Temple Beth Israel along with friends and ON BEING JEWISH NOW book contributors Amy Blumenfeld, Alix Strauss and Rebecca Raphael. This event is open to non temple members. I would LOVE to see my Long Island friends there — you know who you are! This is a great group of friends/authors and promises to be a wonderful evening. Register for Port Washington event at link here.
Hi Rachel! So nice to meet you at Maureen’s book event last night!

"This is where I feel I must weigh in." I could literally hear this in your voice.
I'm here for all the jeans except the barrel which I cannot pull off. Also, in Minnesota we just cannot do the baggy sometimes because as you pointed out SNOW. And in spring, SLUSH.
