I have tasted MANY macaroons and I will go on record as saying these are the best I have ever had….ever!! Full disclosure: This is not my macaroon recipe although many people believe it to be. This is not my Aunt Jo’s recipe, which even more people believe to be true. This recipe comes from my Aunt Jo’s mother-in-law Edna Hochman. Should I draw a family tree? I called Edna “Ednee” which was her grandmother name given to her by my cousin when he was a little boy and couldn’t say Edna. Although Ednee was not technically my grandmother, she sure felt like one.
I don’t think that Ednee was even five feet tall but she was called a giant of a woman for many reasons, all well and true. Aunt Jo is also a giant of a woman in so many ways, especially to me. She is my forever fashion idol as she has the best hair accessories, bangle bracelets and overall sense of style. She is also my lifelong cheerleader and go to person when I need advice on a whole slew of topics. Although Aunt Jo is not technically not my mother, she sure feels like one.
Aunt Jo is a fabulous cook and baker, and it was she who brought back Ednee’s macaroon recipe from the family archives. Aunt Jo remembered Ednee making the macaroons just about 65 years ago when Aunt Jo first started dating Ednee’s son who would become her husband. In the late 1990s after Ednee died, Aunt Jo found the old recipe and started making them in droves for family and friends alike.
